How to Train your Dragon Essay -- Film Review, Vikings
In the film, How to Train Your Dragon, the Vikings are at war, fighting for their institutions and peace from their existential threat, the Dragons. The Vikings are in a society in which the institutions reflect their historical struggles and have shaped them to be close-minded to any peaceful interaction with Dragons. Thus, in How to Train Your Dragon, the institutions that the Vikings had, represented what Rousseau saw as being a society with a self-interest social contract of the majority. This causes estrangement between their civilization and the Dragons. The Vikings eventually form a new social contract, in which the Vikings and Dragons represent Rousseau's general will of equality as rationally as possible given the Dragons are not on the same intellect level. The Vikings formed a society thatââ¬â¢s institutions caused a loss in compassion and was focused on self-interest. Institutions being: ââ¬Å"The organizational structure through which political power is exercisedâ⬠(116). Rousseau believed ââ¬Å"that all of society, not just political society, is corruptâ⬠(58). This moral corruption that exists is caused by the formation of institutions that set the basis for a group identity and beliefs, the Vikings. Group identity is, ââ¬Å"the degree to which members identify with a groupâ⬠(56). This identity leads to an estrangement among those who are outsiders. The institutions promote the use of collective action: ââ¬Å"A coordinated group activity designed to achieve a common goal that individuals acting on their own could not otherwise attainâ⬠(42). This collective action is the Vikings pursue to destroy the Dragon population. The Vikings view the Dragons as ââ¬Å"pestâ⬠who steal their food and destroy t heir land (How to Train Your Dragon). So, the i... ...tutions it creates ââ¬Å"makes people focus on their individual desires, robs them of the compassion, and promotes inequalityâ⬠(58). The estrangement that grew between the Dragons and Vikings is proved to be caused by the formation of the societyââ¬â¢s institutions because they destroyed the image of the Dragons, and set the social expectations that one must do to be part of the Vikingââ¬â¢s cultural identity. The friendship that grew between Hiccup and Toothless destroyed the beliefs and practices of the Vikings institutions, which believed dragons were only evil and must be destroyed. This destruction of the institutions creditability led to the new social contract between the Dragons and Vikings. This represented what Rousseau believed to be a ââ¬Å"perfect worldâ⬠of which the general will is the sovereign and is ââ¬Å"a government that rules for everyone at nobodyââ¬â¢s expenseâ⬠(58).

Cincinnati Subs Essay
Cincinnati Super Subs employee makeup is mostly young students in college and in high school; management has indicated that the chain has experienced ââ¬Å"below average profitability over the past 18 monthsâ⬠(McShane & Von Glinow, 2013, p. 156). The below average profitability is linked to the increase of food wastage, management has taken steps to address the issue from reduction and elimination of food allowance accounts to the increased visual scrutiny given workers. The changes made by management were only successful for a few months, after the managers reduced their time in daily operations the amount of food wastage began to increase. To reduce food wastage management must have a presence in daily operations at the sub chain, create and enforce punishments for violations, set goals and create rewards for the reduction in food wastage. Indications of Problems at Cincinnati Super Subs ââ¬â¹Food wastage at Cincinnati Super Subs is a huge problem that has resulted in the reduction of monthly bonuses given to management. The staff at the chain complains about the amount or lack of food allowances given, this would prompt employees to ââ¬Å"help themselves to food and drinks when the managers arenââ¬â¢t aroundâ⬠(McShane & Von Glinow, 2013, p. 156). The reduction in profitability over the past 18 months at stores has indicated the levels of food wastage have significantly impacted management employee relations and overall costs at the chain. The importance of reducing food wastage is not realized by non-management staff, they feel that the amount of food/drinks given away or eaten isnââ¬â¢t a significant amount of profits. Corrective actions taken against employees have reduced staff levels as some employees have quit and warned others about seeking employment at Cincinnati Super Subs. Management failed to accurately identify and corrects the causes of food wastage, and in the process caused employee dissatisfaction.

ââ¬ÅBroken homeââ¬Â: what is it and what are its consequences
Relationships between parents and children have always been a significant topic to discuss and a serious matter to think about. In fact, they are the essence of the family life and the basis of childrenââ¬â¢s formation as a personality. It is important to pay attention to these relationships because they are usually tensed and strained. When a child is grown up in a family where he/she feels indifference and coldness he/she will take such vision of mutual relationships into his/her own adult life. Love and care of the family members have a crucial impact on the childââ¬â¢s psychical development.ââ¬Å"In the English language, ââ¬Å"broken homeâ⬠refers to the family where the bonds between mother, father and children have turned sour or ruptured; individuals are weakened or uprooted as a resultâ⬠(Fend ââ¬Å"Broken Homeâ⬠). This term is used to note a family in which love, care, and understanding are absent. Every family member is a victim. Nobody wants to blam e him-/herself, nobody cares about other personââ¬â¢s feelings, and nobody wants to suffer. Parents are quarrelling among themselves and as a result have no time for their kids.Sometimes it can be even worst ââ¬â parents blame their children in all problems. No doubt, such a family cannot be useful for a society as it cannot be useful even for its own members. In the ââ¬Å"broken homeâ⬠family relationships are broken. For a child life in such a home is a nightmare. As we all well know, every child needs love and attention. Without these elements child will suffer emotionally, thus he/she wonââ¬â¢t develop as a well-balanced personality. Moreover, child in such a family will always be between his/her fighting parents. The kid loves both parents equally and wants them to leave in mutual love and respect. When the child sees his/her parents quarreling, he/she may think that he/she is the reason of their disagreement. This awareness makes the kidââ¬â¢s life more compl icated. The famous Papa Roachââ¬â¢s song reflects the childââ¬â¢s feelings and emotions which he/she experiences while leaving in such family. The kid begins to blame his-/herself in all parentsââ¬â¢ problems: Broken homeâ⬠¦ all alone I can't seem to fight these feelings . . . . . . . . . .. . . And my wounds are not healing I'm stuck in between my parents . . . . . . . . . . . . . I know my mother loves me, but does my father even care If I'm sad or angry you were never ever there . . . . . . . . . . . . . Whatââ¬â¢s wrong with me (1-2, 4-5, 13-14, 20) Thatââ¬â¢s why parents should pay due attention to their mutual relationships, as well as to the relationships with their kids. Life in a ââ¬Å"broken homeâ⬠negatively influences kidââ¬â¢s growth. ââ¬Å"Broken homeâ⬠is a serious problem families must deal with.Such type of family is characterized by constant cry, fear, and tears. On the contrary, well-being family is characterized by love, care, an d joy. The parentsââ¬â¢ divine duty is to make their home a desirable place for leaving, a place where their children will always want to go to. All that is needed to make a kid happy is just a sincere hug, a word of support, a smile, and a tolerance. Parents should try to be patient with each other and not to quarrel about trivial things. And even if they do quarrel, they should make sure their kids are not witnessing this.Every problem can be solved if there is a mutual desire, even the problem of a ââ¬Å"broken homeâ⬠. Why are so many people unhappy? Why do they perceive mutual relationships as a constant mortification and pain? The answer is simple: they were grown up in ââ¬Å"broken homesâ⬠. Our task is to ensure joyful and happy life for kids and to eradicate the phrase ââ¬Å"broken homeâ⬠from our language. Works Cited Fend, Peter. Main Stream Rap causes social problems in minority communities Essay - 1
Main Stream Rap causes social problems in minority communities - Essay Example Have the lessons of the historical struggles of the African Americans to tide over slavery and gain civil rights gone in vain as the current trends in hip-hop are out to promote drugs, sex, violence, disrespect to authority and crimes? The overall opinion is against the mainstream rap and it is making the African American youth directionless and destination-less, and instead of mitigating, it adds to their woes. I have tried to argue in this paper that in the initial stages, the protest of the African Americans was vocal that in due course evolved into a political struggle. Simultaneously they also protested through literature and religious platforms. The whites continued to dominate the African American community and were not willing to give any concession to them, until slavery was legally abolished. The problems of the African Americans did not end there. Issues like poverty, lack of education, integration with the mainstream society, fight against segregation, employment opportunities continued to confront them. In this paper I have made an attempt to make a passing reference to all such issues. Measures needed for reformation and rehabilitation of the African American youth have also been discussed. Another i mportant problem confronting the African American society is the issue of single mother households. Even with the legal abolition of slavery, racism still casts its evil influences overtly and covertly and creates hurdles in the path of progress for the African American youth. Undoubtedly, mainstream rap is the enemy of the youth viewed from many angles. It promotes unhealthy social values, though music itself cannot be singled out for spreading bad values. It holds the mirror of present societal values and presents what is going on in the American scene. Objectification, lewd music, immodest lyrics have become the characteristics of mainstream rap. It also encourages violence. Through

MBA Implementing Strategies - Essay Example In other words Level 5 Leader possesses transformational leadership qualities that radiate downwards to the first level in a vertical hierarchical structure. Thus the other four levels are subordinate ones with gradually rising power dynamics (Segal, 2005, p.159). A great number of leadership style theories has proliferated in the recent years but nevertheless the following seven theoretical approaches are found often in the current literature on the subject - Trait leadership theories, Behavioural leadership theories, Participative leadership theories, Contingency leadership theories, Relationship or transformational leadership theories, Management or transactional leadership theories and Situational leadership theories. These theories have acquired different levels of importance and acceptance in different time periods. Each one has its own significance and value. Despite the popularity of many of them transformational leadership theories such as Level 5 Leadership theory of Collins have been gaining ascendancy against the rest as of recently.
